MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
The manufacturing and service industry in Kenya requires trained personnel in the mechanical engineering sector. They include Engineers, Technicians, Plant operators, Mechanics among other operators. They have the technical know-how and hands on skills to operate the heavy machinery and equipment.
The Mechanical Engineering department is one of the pioneer departments in Chuka technical and vocational college, having been started in 2018.
The major objective of the department is to meet the requirements of the industries in the field of Mechanical Engineering and therefore to train students in this field.
The Department is vibrant, due to dynamic and competent technical staff members, as well as our enthusiastic and hardworking students. Our staff members are trained at highly-reputable Universities and Colleges all over Kenya, with specialized knowledge and Skills that run the gamut of Mechanical Engineering, ranging from basic Mechanical Engineering to Advanced Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM).
The department has Three workshops equipped with state-of-the-art and specialized equipment like CNC lathe, CNC C , Milling machines, lathe machines , ARC welding machines, Gas welding Equipment, to mention but a few.
The Department offers Certificate and Diploma courses in Mechanical Engineering.
The Craft and Diploma students acquire a good balance of theoretical background and practical experience throughout their course of study. Students are equipped with the practical skills necessary to begin working effectively in engineering firms immediately after completion. Upon graduation, they are usually competent enough to compete favourably for National and International job markets.
Our Mechanical Engineering graduates have found work all over Kenya, and are dealing with megaprojects, bettering people’s lives. Others have found their passion in self-employment, offering specialized Technical services. We ensure that our graduates have the understanding necessary to maintain their skills and competencies throughout their professional career. The course puts emphasis on practical work and competence acquisition, thus, the trainee is required to spend adequate time on practical lessons.
The graduate of the course will be able to organize, manage, produce and market engineering products while upholding the professional standards. Our program in Chuka TVC is tailored to have both the theoretical and practical lessons to ensure we produce a holistic graduate.
Examinations
We offer examinations under the Kenya National Examinations council (KNEC).
